 Australian Holidays – Summary

1. Australia Day
Australia Day is a public national holiday, the date commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney cove in 1788. Australia Day is just one day on 26 January every year. On the day people celebrate festival, many activities are held on, such as outdoor concert, community barbecues, sports competitions, festivals and fireworks.

2. Easter  
Easter is a Christain festival and holiday, the date celebrating Jesus Christ from crucifixion to resurrection. on the first Sunday following the full moon that occurs on or following the spring equinox (March 21). Easter is a "movable" feast which can occur as early as March 22 or as late as April 25. Churches commemorate the grand event. There are various competitions held such as face painting, egg hunting/rolling, singing, etc.

3. ANZAC Day
Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zeand, originally commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

4. Mother’s  Day
Mother’s Day is a special day for mothers in Australia, and the date is holiday where families often get together. It is on the second Sunday of May each year. Many people appreciate their mothers or mother figures, which include stepmothers, relatives, guardians etc, the activities may include Visits to the zoo, movies, have meal, handmade gifts, organized walks or runs etc.

5. Queen’s Birthday
Australia Queen’s Birthday is celebrated on the second Monday of June. Every year on this day Australian Post issues a Queen’s Birthday stamp and recipients of the Order of Australia are also announced on this special day.

6. Father's Day
In Australia, Father’s Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of september, which is the first Sunday of Spring and is not a public holiday. The date is a day to get together with the family and spoil dad. Most father would receive presents from their kids.

7. Labour Day
Labour Day also know as Eight-Hour Day and May Day. Labor Day. in Australia, it is not celebrated on the same date. In the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales and South Australia, Labor Day is a public holiday on the first Monday in October. It celebrates the achievements of organised labour on behalf of the worker to bring about the 8-hour day in the late 1850s

8. Christmas/New Year’s Eve
Christmas is observed on 25 December each year to commemorate the birth of Jesus. Many people, even if they are not Christian, give each other gifts, prepare special meals and decorate their homes at this time of year.
New Year's Eve, the last day of the year, is on December 31. Many Australians annually celebrate New Year’s Eve with parties, music and other forms of entertainment.
